Here is a very cute Japanese boy Buddhist monk with alms begging bowl and traditional hat. Made of ceramic and hand painted. The figurine is glued to the wooden base. Great gift item. Takuhatsu is a traditional form of dāna or alms given to Buddhist monks in Japan. In the practice of takuhatsu, monks travel to various businesses and residences to chant sutras in Sino-Japanese in exchange for donations of food and money. You can see a similar item being sold in Kyoto by googling Kyoto doll dot com and searching for ‘monk’ going for $30.
